Using MeshCore and Meshtastic, we're building a community-driven, off-grid, license free, subscription-free, cell service-free LoRa mesh radio infrastructure across the Crystal Coast along the Southern Outer Banks of North Carolina for personal and emergency communications.
LoRa mesh networks (Meshtastic and MeshCore) provide long-range, low-power communications at the coast that can relay messages between nodes without relying on cell towers or satellites, extending coverage beyond line of sight and improving reliability during emergencies or outages. They are inexpensive to deploy, use license-free radio frequencies, and can operate for days on battery power, making them practical for boaters and coastal communities.
